Ferries are the lifeblood of coastal communities surrounding the Salish Sea off the coast of Vancouver. BC Ferries provides a vital link to the provincial capital and the area’s crown jewels the Southern Gulf Islands. Crossing Active Pass between Mayne and Galliano Island is a right of passage if you visit or live on the South Coast of British Columbia. I crossed the channel many times and in an effort to pass the time I started pointing my camera at the ships that ply these waters. BC Ferries operates one of the largest ferry fleets in the world. A much maligned entity that British Columbians love to hate, but cannot live without. Despite that, they are often caught in a childlike trance once aboard while taking in the majestic landscape these ships are meant to make accessible.
