With the Vancouver area going through an affordable housing crisis which has lasted more than a decade now, the proliferation of people living in RVs, Campers, and Vans have been very visible. The popularity of this nomadic lifestyle has been gaining momentum too, especially cultivated by influencers on Instagram. Travellers are setting out on the open road in droves. Most of them hit the road in converted vans in search of freedom from the rat race and mortgage payments while broadcasting their adventures to the world. The series is not particularly about them but they’re part of this conversation as well. Living on the road is a lifestyle many people do for fun but some do out of sheer necessity. I chose to photograph these rolling abodes square on for easy comparison and to show off their boxy charm. I find it fascinating how much each vehicle tells about their owner’s personality and perceived social status even though they are not pictured.
